Last week Sunday threw my back out bending over slightly. Couldn't walk all day. Got slowly better as the week progressed. Thursday played nine for league, Friday drove up to ssmokin's and played 9. Saturday played 18 with sssmokin. Sunday went on "road trip" with wife and daughter in wife's Civic (brutal) on 350 miles to western part of state, hiked on wicked trails at Wialusing state park over Prairie du Chen where Wisconsin river meets the Mississippi river. Today went for 18 at local course. Played the first four holes at 3 over. Fourth par four hit nice drive, nice iron but just short. Got out of cart to chip on and "pop" out went the back again. Couldn't hardly stand. Still managed to somehow chip the ball on the green. Couldn't take normal putting stance but somehow made the par putt. Playing a good round (for me) since I had the hard holes out of the way and the rest is easy (birdie hole par 5 next) but got in the cart and went home. I'm not sure when I'll play again. I'm in pain... :(

Sorry to hear about the back. What a bummer in the middle of summer.

You should probably see a doctor, any maybe get an x-ray to be positive you didn't do anything severe. Give it a rest for at least a couple of days.

This happens once or twice a year but first time twice in one week. Chiropractor usually fixes it. Long story but due to years of Ankylosing Spondalitis (arthritus of the spine). My week of vacation is down the tubes. I'm starting to feel a little better but not going to golf for a week and a half and see how it goes. :(

Warbirdlover, I have the same condition to some degree (spondalitis). I can go years with absolutely no problem, and then have months where the slightest wrong move can set it off. Once it goes "boing!!" the only thing I have found that helps is sleeping on a hard mattress and prednisone for a few days.

Prevention: get that belly in shape. Doing situps helps strengthen your core muscles. Doing back extensions on a machine is also good. Get rid of the "beer belly".

Things to watch out for: getting in and out of cars and golf carts. Most of us twist our backs a lot when we are doing this. Bending over to pick up things: bend those knees.

1 word - Vicodin.

Enjoy your vacation

This all makes sense. :)

Everything doc said and consider seeing a specialist. Not a surgeon, a spine specialist. It took some time but I'm feeling much better these days. I still have some pain but I can play 18 and not feel like a cripple the next day so that's progress.

Only problem is that I don't have anything to blame my crappy swing now. ;)
