I played my first 9 holes from the ladies tees this morning... WITH driver. The round went like this...
1. 440yd par5- Yanked tee shot into trees and got no further than I usually do. Had to punch out to right rough @ 183 yds out. Hit 6i to front fringe. Mediocre chip and two putts for bogey.
2. 120yd par3- Overcooked a draw w/PW into left bunker. Out to about 5', but two putted for bogey.
3. 300yd par4- Drove it just into left rough 15 yds short of the green. Pitched to about 5' and again two putted for par.
4. 355yd par4- Drive only 2* off line left, but my line was wrong from this tee box... the ball ran through the rough and a fence ob left. Drop two (behind a tree) and try to hit over the tree from 120 or so unsuccessfully. Hit 4 just short. Mediocre chip and two putt for triple.
5. 435yd par5- Yanked the drive a bit... left rough. 9i from 150 out to front fringe. Chip that didn't check at all for some reason and two putts for par.
6. 365yd par4- Aimed right to cut the corner on a dogleg right and blocked it a little... ended in the rough between my hole and the parallel hole. PW from 120 onto the green leaving a long putt. Three putts later I was in for bogey.
7. 300yd par4- Never saw my drive and never found it... I suspect it went right so I dropped one 30 yds short of the green way over in the right rough. Didn't feel like trying to carry the bunker so pitched my third safely on the green, but a long ways away. Three putts later I was in for double.
8. 120yd par3- Again overcooked a draw to the left fringe, but hit the yardage exactly pin high. Mediocre chip and two putts for bogey.
9. 290yd par4- Here's the highlight... drove the green with a beautiful draw around the water to about 10' (i'll post a pic soon). Dufner'd my eagle putt and safely in for bird.
44 w/ 20 friggin putts and two penalties. Pathetic. More putts than usual and fairly typical score for me. I suspect I will do a bit better playing to spots with irons which i'll be doing next time. I am actually looking forward to playing a whole round with irons because my iron play has fallen off and it's what I like the best. Short game obviously needs some work too. i'll do it with driver again too and pay more attention to the different lines. I hate not having a full iron shot though. To be continued...
If you've gotten this far you're at least slightly interested in the topic. This will be an ongoing (not forever... i'm not the Hogan swing guy) deal with updates. Let's at least make an effort (even if only a feeble one) to keep the bullshit to a minimum. I told you so's and all that wont mean a thing until I feel i've completed this experiment and there's enough data to dissect. I truly don't mind some criticism, but obvious overstatements and premature conclusions will only serve to send this thread into the Shottalk Zone.
