True Grit

I rented True Grit last night and really enjoyed it. I would like to be able to watch it and the original back to back, but they both stand on their own merit.

Acting has progressed a LONG way, (as has most everything). The actors we consider to be great nowadays, may not stand the test of time either by whatever standards as in place 20 or more years from now. Look at how over the top melodramatic the original silent film actors were. But is what was demanded of them.

I have a feeling it's going to go backwards. With the amount of 'real housewives', 'jersey shore', and all that horse shit that's on TV it blows my mind that shit makes any type of ratings but the women of this country just ****ing eat it up.

Disgusting. I can't watch that shit for 3 seconds without wanting to suck off a shotgun barrel or throw my TV out the ****ing window.

The fact is, if they're making ratings, they could care less what the material is on TV.

TV sucks now. As for movies, lately there have been a feww good ones. But in the last 5-10 yrs I can count on one hand the # of good movies that have been out.

I watched Valkyrie last night, that was decent. At the moment I am watching Zack and Miri make amporno, pretty funny!

TV does suck, no doubt. The really crappy part is that it will eventually impact the big screen.

I'm definitely more of a comedy movie type. Drama's really don't interest me at all. Action to a degree depending on the subject matter.

War movies, especially ones that are more accurate than not interest me. You just don't see these anymore and that's downright sad, but i get it, i mean, how many times can you portray the same battles. There really isn't anything new happening on the WWII front...

I don't really watch much TV. I've been watching The Big Break, True Blood with my wife and Scooby-Doo with the boy...that's about it. I'm just too antsy to sit around and watch TV or movies. I can't remember the last good movie I watched. I probably won't watch True Grit either...my parents burnt me out on Westerns when I was a kid. Although, come to think of it, I watched Tombstone a few weeks ago, but only because my wife had never seen it and I made her watch it...classic film.

One of the best WWII movies I have seen is Downfall. If you haven't seen it and you enjoyed Valkyrie you should enjoy this. Only issue is it's in German with subtitles. Bruno Ganz's portrayal of Adolf Hitler is amazing.

I hardly ever watch TV in the spring/summer/fall. Literally if i sit down to watch TV, it's because it's either dark out or the Brewers are on. Otherwise i'm either riding my motorcycle, golfing, fishing, hunting, fixing something, or just outside...

Winter on the other hand, i'm either ice fishing, or watching TV....

Barkz- I will have to check that out! I wasnt sure how I would feel about Tom Cruise in that role, but I thought he'd did well and overall the movie was decent.

I hear that.

I wanna go ice fishing...never been, would love to go. Is it usually slow going?

I enjoyed the new one... you just can't replace John Wayne though... I LOVE Bridges, but it's hard to replace a legend. Bridges is 100 times the actor JW ever was... but... yeah....

Depends...kinda like regular fishing, some days you will go all day without catching a damn thing. Other days you can't get the hooks baited and back down the holes fast enough. With a shanty, heater, and a good friend, it's always a good day on the ice.

Man, that sounds like fun!
