What did you buy today?

About 2 weeks ago I went for an iron fitting at a shop about 2 hrs from me. Had never been on a track man before and must say it was pretty cool. Ended up pulling the trigger on a set of Srixon z785’s. Most surprising was the shafts I was fit into. Since losing weight and working out a bit I seemed to have gained some speed. Was fit into either Project X 6.5, LZ 6.5 or C Taper S+. Ended up going with the LZs, launch soon and dispersion was best!

Got a call today they were in and I should have them soon, will post some pics when I get them! Really excited since I’ve never done a real fitting, only bought stuff off eBay and tested it in the field behind my house!

Cobra just dropped its price on the F9 Speedback Drivers. Bought one at Tour Length with the heavier weights to offset the shorter shaft. Project X Even Flo Blue 75. $250 direct from Cobra.

Thanks, that’s how I roll with drivers, buy last years model new when prices drop to clearance. (Used to be easier when TM introduced new drivers every 3 months, but deals can be had if patient.)

So I played yesterday. Came to the club early and did a bit of DIY on the Spider. My buddy was able to get the Superstroke grip off unharmed. We then hacked off 1.5 inches, filed it off and put tape on. To compensate for the weight I inserted a dead AA battery into the shaft with a layer of tape to the top, it fitted perfectly, just needed the tape to make it snug and I had to tap it in. We then put the new grip on, lined it up and cleaned it off. I was able to wash it off with some soap and warm water.

Results? On the first green I holed from 25 feet for a bird. Second green I was above the pin and managed a great two putt, I had to hole from 8 feet for a par. I then droped in a 15 foot putt for a bird on three. Yes -2 after three. I’d love to tell you that it went on like that for the rest of the day. Alas. But I did shoot 77 (36/41) with two doubles. The second one was frustrating. A mystery lost ball from just off the fairway.

But the new grip set up feels amazing. I love the pistol shape, it fits my hands well, and the backweighting seems perfect. My long range putts were on point most of the day.

I’m also in love with the M6 3 wood. I smoked two shots onto a par 5 into the breeze. The second was ~230 yards uphill into a 20mph breeze. It took off like a rocket. It’s easy to hit and gives me a much higher ball flight.

Got my Srixons on Friday and man they feel great! Can’t wait to get outside and play them. Went 5-GW and man they are sharp looking. The GW is pretty sweet looking, was expecting it to be similar cavity style as the rest of the set but it’s more of a traditional blade style.
