I sent a note to Taylor Made asking if they were going to make the new Burner Fairway in a 4-wood. Got this:

Thanks for the email.
We only offer 3, 5, and 7 in the woods with the High Launch and the tour
spoon, 3, and 5 with the Tour Launch

Thank you again and thanks for playing TaylorMade!

Best regards,

Matt

Wonder why they don't offer it in a 4-wood? A lot of others are starting to. I was kinda lookin to replace both 3 and 5 with a 4. Maybe that's the point, they don't want people doing that.

Just no market.

With the re-invent of higher lofted drivers being the norm for many, it makes sense to go to a 4 wood as a proper fit. But until TM starts selling alot more 12 and 14* heads, there's no need.

I played around yesteray and never touched my 5 and 7 wood. Hit my 3 about 3 times. I'm trying to figure out what to dump. I'm hitting my long irons a lot farther now and might dump the 7.

I'm thinking about dumping my 5-wood and upgrading my 3-hybrid.

Driver - 250-265
3-wood - 220-230
5-wood - 205-215
3-hybrid - 195-210
4-hybrid - 185-195

I'm a little inconsistent with my 3-hybrid... but it's an older model. I have a newer Burner 4-hybrid that I'm very consistent with. So I'm thinking I might buy a matching model 3-hybrid(perhaps even a 2-hybrid) and dumping the 5-wood.

The whole reason behind this thought process is I have too many clubs in the bag and want to be "legal".

I'd say they probably want you to buy the 3 and 5W. To make a fairly broad statement, I'd say most guys that are 90-100mph. SS would be better suited to with a 10.5* driver and a 16-16.5* 4W. Then pretty much take it right to a 20* hybrid and then a 4iron or another hybrid. All depends on ability, launch angle and striking. Lately I've been hitting driver around 275 and 3W a little over 250. I play a 13* 3W because I can't control the driver enough and can hit the 13* off the deck no problem. I go right to a 17* 5W, which is close to a 4W and hit it around 225. It's all a matter of what lofts are offering you the best yardage gaps and playability.

Its a real shame, but I just dont think there is a market for one right now. The casual golfer just will not buy the "odd equipment".

I usually walk a course and carry my bag, so it would be to my advantage to get rid of some clubs. A 4 wood would take out my 3 n 5 woods, then Id probably remove the 3 and 4 irons and replace them with a 22 degree hybrid... leaving me with 12 clubs. makes so much sense that my wife will never let it happen.

I carry a Burner 3w as well as an R7 4w. I don't use the 4w all that much & might dump it at some point for a Burner 5w since I absolutley hate my 3 & 4 hybrids.

Do you need a PW and a 50 degree wedge?

Do you need a PW and a 50 degree wedge?

Yeah. PW is about 118 or so. I had a 52 that I could only get about 90-95 out of, needed something to close that gap a little that I could hit right on 100. 50 was the answer.
