That's just lazy state naming like W Virginia. When they came to W Virginia to see what they were going to name their state, they asked what they wanted to be called. They asked "Well, what is their name?" (pointing east), "Virginia", " We'll be West Virginia".

Like New York and New Mexico, too. Lazy jerks.

North and South Dakota both take their names from the Dakota, a tribe of Siouan people who lived in the region. No detailed etymology of Dakota is widely accepted, but the most common explanation is that it means “friend” or “ally” in the language of the Sioux.

I played Coronado 2 years ago when I was in SD for work. That stretch with the Par 3, Par 4 that runs right next to residential, the Par 3 back toward the water with the boats and dock in the background and then the Par 4 or Par 5 that runs along the coast is beautiful. Don't remember the hole numbers but its awesome course!
it's a great little course but way too many elderly people playing there on the weekends. I play on the other side of the island about 2-3 times a week.

again, not all today but some of the courses I've played this month. The last one is actually a view from the shitter.
Torrey pines, del mar country club, cimmeron , and balboa.

What did it play with the elevation drop? Great looking hole!
It probably played about 215-220 that day considering the strong winds. I hit a solid 4 iron and was short. This is the other municipal close other than torrey pines here. A lot of great holes but failed to take more pictures.
