Gave my son-in-law (one of them) my old irons and a bag and putter. He's been hooked. He normally always fishes, hunts and drag races his race car and now he's golfing. And loves it.

Today I played with him on a very nice 9-hole course with my daughter and nephew riding in another cart along with us.

Son-in-law makes mistakes but gets down the fairway in pretty decent shape. He loses his score on chipping and putting but that's normal for a beginner. We didn't hold anyone up.

Now, I played pretty darn good today. Crushed my driver (love the 905R) and hit most of the fairways. Hybrids were on the green on long shots in. Had to hit a wedge over a tall tree between me and the pin 100 yards away on one hole and pulled it off (2 foot putt). Coming through the ball really well and right side is releasing nicely (my problem earlier this summer). Didn't dub (blade or hit fat) any shots and was a perfect day. One hole I hit my second shot (dogleg right) into what appeared to be a greenside trap. I'd been putting 100-150 yard shots on the green all day out of the trap so no sweat. Turns out it was a greenside waterhole about the size of a trap (never saw one of those before) so cost me a stroke so one double bogey 6. Anyway a few missed birdies, got a few pars and shot a 43. I'll take that at my age. Especially outdriving my son-in-law every hole. Big time. :D

And also turned him on to Global Golf. He got a (like brand new) R5 Dual 9.5Âş (draw since he was slicing) with a NV 65 stiff in it for under $100. It was his birthday so for a couple of his birthday presents I got him some headcovers for his new driver and a Taylor Made cap. Told him he has to wear his "colors". Great day today.... :D

Sounds like a blast. I wish I had more people to golf with around here. I checked the map, no one close :(

That's awesome Warbird.

And I see he has good taste in clubs.

Just curious, but where in central NY. are you?

Warbird...
First congrads on your fine round!
Best of luck to your son-in-law!

After I took up the game I was telling my friend 'Tenn-driver', ( a member here) how much I enjoyed the game but how hard it is to learn.
His words,
"Anybody can hit a stupid little white ball with a stick!"
So I sent him a full set of clubs that I was given.
His next comment was,
"I guess NOT everyone can hit a stupid little white ball with a stick!!!!"
Imagine that!;)

Then 'Tn-golfnut-from NJ', (another member), had me take him out to the range.
The same guy that swore he'd never pick up a golf club!
Now he lives on the range, course, and at the pro shop!

So chaulk up two more "monsters" on the list!
They absolutely love the game!
It's me they hate for infecting them!!!!:laugh::laugh:

Very cool Warbird. Great round.

I love seeing the naysayers - you know, the ones who keep telling you what a stupid game it is - get hooked. Somehow you convince them to give it a try, they make contact a couple of times, and its like you just handed them a smile pill. Suddenly, they're golfers, and keep bugging you to help them learn. And we're all too happy to help.

What a great game.

that seems to be the way it is with golf.i`ve taken a few people out for there first time. i always tell them you`ll either love it or hate it there seems to be no in beetween.

the first time i took my league partner we finished the second hole and he asked "we are going agian next week right?"
my father when asked after his first time said"its ok i didnt kill anyone.maybe i should by a glove before we leave."week later he had a new set of clubs.ther are a few others but the results are the same they were hooked.

my mother was about the only one who wasnt excited but i dont think she was realy into it she more or less just tried it so she could spend more time with me.(my parents split when i was about 8.i think because i was working with my father at the time and golfing weekly with him she felt a little left out.

My Dad and I get out every few months, since he only lives a couple of hours away. He's still a decent golfer (playing to a 12 right now at the age of 70) and can hit still hit the ball a ton. We have agood time.

My Mom likes to play, but it's hard for her physically anymore. Still, we manage to get out at least once a year and enjoy nine holes together. I wish she could play more, since she has a natural talent for the game.

When he's not doing that, he's watching the Golf Channel, or reading Golf Digest.
The boy, is a sick puppy, I tell ya.

unfortunately my father doesnt play anymore or atleast hasnt in 4 1/2 yrs.

when he started having medical probs.seemed like when the doc would tell him he could start swinging the clubs agian but take it easy something else would pop up.i did call him this yr and ask if he wanted to play but he wasnt feeling wel that day and said he hadnt swung a club in 4 yrs.i guess with not working for the last 5yrs and trying to get early sos.sec and the med. probs. he just lost intrest.maybe next yr will be diff. i hope.

That's a hike!

I guess that would be a bit of a ride for either one of us, huh?
If you ever find youself going to the Jersey Shore and/or Atlantic City or something, drop me a line and we'll get together for a round.:)
