Callaway FT-iQ - First Impressions.

I'm afraid even the Tour model looked a couple of degrees closed to me at address. I liked the looks of the FTi when it was released but when I saw the FTiQ for the first time I just thought it looked like a POS. I picked up the Tour and took my stance with it and I was not impressed at all, if thats an open face...well it isn't!!! I played on sunday with a lad who had the non tour, 11 degrees with reg fubi shaftl. I didn't bother hitting it as it was total wrong spec for me...(would have been perfect for old man Dave)! even the new owner of it didn't hit it that well.

If this is the case, and seems to be by all those that have seen it and hit it, expect these to be cheap as hell by May.

You know what?

I'm glad. Heaven knows I don't need another driver, and if it was a good one, I'd get it.

I saw these for the first time today, looks awkward as hell with a white shaft and lamborghini. Hit it against my 907 D2 and my Titty was a good 15-20 yds longer. The Cally was straight with a slight fade which was odd since the damn thing sits like 10* closed. Bigger and wider than the FTi from what i can tell.

SUX,

I got out of the house this morning for a bit and stopped by the shop. Call it a "sanity keeper" with the newborn in the house. Mama was sleeping, I went and ran errands.

I walked in just as the new Cally stuff was being unwrapped. I instantly took off my jacket, grabbed a 9.5* and headed for the cage.

First Impressions, Rock-Style:

- i hate this shaft. Typical Fujikura noodle. Read: left pulls all day. This was a huge issue for me, and will be until i get to hit this head without one in it. Too bad. The swings into the SIM were as expected, pull hooks. Feels great off the face tho, and I don't put much stock in distance numbers with that sim.

- the face on the 9.5* is closed. This surprised me, but not alot after your initial thoughts. The 8.5*, which I haven't seen in person, is supposedly open. My understanding, as per the info I was given at the shop, is that the internal weighting plays more a role in the "neutralitiy" of the head itself. There aren't any Fade, Neutral or Draw setups anymore, just Neutral for the Tour, Draw for the non-Tour. This was 100% because of the numbers of sales of each of the FT-i heads in the past two years were overwhelmingly what's reflected in the new offering.

- I like the looks. The leading edge is strange tho, it's almost butter knife sharp. Which is odd, considering every other drive except the Wilson Invex has a soft leading edge. This seemed like an odd design feature, but I'm told it plays into the face technology. Hey, whatever works.

While I wasn't overly blown away, I wasn't sickened by this - yet. I want to see that 8.5* head before giving it the thumbs up or down.

As of right now, I wouldn't bag one if it was that head and that shaft. Maybe that's more accurate.

PS...if you want to see closed, look at the Non-Tour head. Holy cripes. I thought the shaft was installed incorrectly when I saw it at address. Cripes.

FT-IQ AND FT-IQ TOUR

After reading all posts I have yet to find anyone with enough knowledge to post. I own both drivers and they are both awsome. I originally bought IQ and followed up with IQ TOUR. The IQ does have a closed face but it is still the straightest driver on the market for most golfers. The IQ TOUR is also arrow straight but can be worked if you need to....Three holes at my club require a fade...Either club performs great...Dont judge by looks......As to shaft...if you can't be happy with a mitsubishi then........fuggitit.....

Let me be the first to welcome you to Shot Talk and congratulate you on an outstanding first post! I think you'll do well and go far here! I look forward to your world of knowledge righting all of our wrongs.

FINALLY! Someone who can take us away from this obscurantism of ignorance we've been immersed in! I told you guys you had no idea what you were talking about.

Welcome Tige....oh, sorry, I mean... Mike!

Just so you are aware, mike, knowledge is not a prerequisite to posting. The point of a discussion board is to discuss. Welcome to ST. FT-iQ is ****ing ugly, BTW. :D

Although this might play well my initial reaction last weekend viewing one of these at B&G Sports in Milwaukee was exactly the same as SilverUberXeno's. Very cheap looking. :(

WOW!!! I picked up the iq Tour and the new Titty D2 & D3 and hit them on the LM at an open range on sunday. The iq only sits closed when it's on the floor, if you hover it, it's perfectly square behind the ball. I hit the D2 and D3 and they both spun like hell, sounded nice but just balooned with the stock Vodoo and BB. I then hit the iq and WOW, HOLY SHIT, this Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki 5xct just kicks into the ball like a dream!!! I hit about 6 drives in a row long and arrow straight!!! Just set up and rip it as hard as you want and it just goes straight and deep! I'd say much lower launch than the FTi and more forgiving on off centre hits. I was at Eagle golf today and they had one in which was Shop soiled (has a mini ding in the back of the head). So being the weak bastardo I am I only snagged it!!!

Looking closely at this driver the face is a more rounded shape than the FTi, it reminds me of the FT3's face and the ball felt hot coming off it as well. If I keep this long enough Acarty can have a go with it next time I'm over his end and I bet he'll change his opinion as well!!!

Manchester, you find the best driver on the market every week -_-

Manchester, you find the best driver on the market every week -_-

Give me some credit, I find a better one everyday but manage too restrict myself to a two week cycle!!! If I changed more than that I'd have to change my name to Manchester 'TaylorMade' Golfer. :)

I've also pulled the trigger on a L5V off the Bay which should arrive one day this week ;) Made a New Years resolution to find THE ONE :)

if you think this driver is ugly just look at it from the back and you can see one of the sweetest cars ever made. lambo diablo. seriously from the back it looks like a diablo... i hit this thing tour version with the tour stiff shaft. and wow i was bombing it straight down the middle maybe a slight fade once or twice. this driver is awesome. if i had enough money id definitely buy it haha.

A driver looking like a car does nothing for me. That's the most ridiculous marketing ploy I've heard in a while.

I just don't think I could ever get used to the square drivers period. ;)
