Irons...

Go for it man. I feel like a good iron will step your game up to the next level...if that is your intentions.

Weigh the pros and cons.

The downside is mishits will maybe be 5 yards shorter. Also, mishits will give you harsh feedback...which can be viewed as good because it's like a slap on the wrist telling your brain not to do that anymore.

The upside is you'll have an iron that's easier to work, has better feel and easier to hit off of tight lies, funky lies, rough and bunkers. They're also easier to chip with around the greens.

It's kind of like owning a sports car, if you want performance and handling your going to get a rougher ride.

Definitely my intentions to get better.

Didn't spend enough time on the course last year..hopefully i can get out a lot more this year. Get my scores into a more respectable zone.

I have shot a few 40's couple 39's and even a 38 on nine before. I'm pretty happy with that, but then i'll shoot 55 on the other nine...I believe my best 18 thus far is 95.

A lot of it used to be lost balls off the tee(hitting 3 off the tee). With my new(er) driver i haven't had that problem near as much. They're not all in the fairway..but at least i can find them.

I think confidence in my irons would go a long way to lowering my scores.

I think AG is onto something here. The reason I went to AP2's was because I wasn't playing often enough to play blades or even a real "gamers" iron and my cap has dropped significantly because of it. Even on my worst ball striking days it's not my irons that are letting me down.

And of course with all clubs, getting the right shaft is key. Moving from a DG S400 to the KBS X-Stiff has tightened my dispersion markedly. Make sure you get your flex right.

And P.S. Doc's irons look like they could be a damn good fit for you. ;-)

This is the best post in this thread. Absolutely spot on.

I'm going to try to get on a monitor either at golf galaxy, nevada bobs, or Dicks sporting goods....hopefully get some numbers with my irons maybe get a better idea of what i need.

Going to try out Doc's set of clubs first. Hopefully they're a good match...if not i can still re-shaft them for cheaper than a new set would've been.

Really looking forward to some new(to me) irons.

I should get some pictures up of the ones i've been playing...they're friggin huge

Pictures of my current setup!

Yep, most definitely time for an iron upgrade. I remember buying the actual Callaway 2 iron for that set and man was that topline thick. Those things would make me vomit on my ball as I stood over the shot.

You should also consider a more forgiving 3 Wood. The current one there in the bag could be improved on for less than $50.

Agreed. I tend to hook that club...which sometimes out of the left rough works well. I've actually put it on around some pine tree's from about 220 with this club...but that was pretty much the only really good shot i hit with it thus far.

Any suggestions?
