It's now been a tad over ayear since ALS diagnosis. Let me tell you this shit sucks! Walking, or even standing is a thing of the past, I need to be lifted into and out of bed, and now I pee in a bottle. My left arm is pretty weak, just barely strong enough to hold a beer or cup of coffee. On the bright side, my hands ar holding their own and I've got no breathing or swallowing problems yet.
Had to get another wheelchair, this one has all the bells & whistles can lift, tilt, all powered - pretty nice. Very damn expensive, new it costs more than I paid for this house (30 years ago) but I bought it from a woman whose husband had ALS and doesn't need it anymore.
I'm in a phase 3 drug trial tjhat loks to be the first ALS drug that retards symptoms. It's a double blind thing where participants get either the drug or a placebo. I thought I was getting placebo until I had a blood thing where components of my white blood cells that fought bacteria fell to 4% of normal. The drug company went nuts and wanted me in a hospital. Later I saw a report about prelim results of the study, in adverse side effects I was noted (not by name, but by symptoms) so I'm pretty sure they're giving me the leaded stuff. Might be why I've still got hands.
Gonna eat & drink today, probably too much..
Have a good New Year and keep the balls in the air.
