It's now been a tad over ayear since ALS diagnosis. Let me tell you this shit sucks! Walking, or even standing is a thing of the past, I need to be lifted into and out of bed, and now I pee in a bottle. My left arm is pretty weak, just barely strong enough to hold a beer or cup of coffee. On the bright side, my hands ar holding their own and I've got no breathing or swallowing problems yet.

Had to get another wheelchair, this one has all the bells & whistles can lift, tilt, all powered - pretty nice. Very damn expensive, new it costs more than I paid for this house (30 years ago) but I bought it from a woman whose husband had ALS and doesn't need it anymore.

I'm in a phase 3 drug trial tjhat loks to be the first ALS drug that retards symptoms. It's a double blind thing where participants get either the drug or a placebo. I thought I was getting placebo until I had a blood thing where components of my white blood cells that fought bacteria fell to 4% of normal. The drug company went nuts and wanted me in a hospital. Later I saw a report about prelim results of the study, in adverse side effects I was noted (not by name, but by symptoms) so I'm pretty sure they're giving me the leaded stuff. Might be why I've still got hands.

Gonna eat & drink today, probably too much..

Have a good New Year and keep the balls in the air.

G'day Wirehair. It's good to see that you still have your sense of humour. When I caught up with IrishGolfer recently he mentioned that he enjoyed the round with you that time. Shame I live so far away.

So, your left arm is weak, but you've still got the right arm? I'm guessing that's because you're a righty and you spend too much time looking at sssmokin's pictures? ;)

New chair sounds cool!

Happy New Year, my friend!

Your news doth sucketh mightily good sir!

Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this son of York;
And all the clouds that low'r'd upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.

That is my wish for you, clouds upon your house buried deep

I started to reply to this thread three times but everything that I started to type sounded so...I don't know.

I will leave it at this, you seem to be dealing with this with an amazing sense of humor and if ever in your situation I hope I can handle it as well as you seem to have.

Happy New Year and all the best.

I feel the same way Jim. I was lucky enough to meet SibDoc, and eClark, and Eracer before he dissapeared and we had a blast. I wish there was some way for us all to meet up for some golf and drinks, but of course that is impossible due to our distances and work schedules, ect..........., but I feel you are all my close friends and literally wonder how different people are doing when I don't see any post by them fro a while.

Word. I had ton's of fun down in Tennessee with you guys. I got to play another round with Eracer this last summer when he was up here for a wedding. I can tell you he's doing fine. I'm on a couple other boards he frequents and is active on.

I feel like good friends with a lot of the members on here even though i haven't met them IRL. Wirehair, i wish you all the best! I can't believe how optimistic you are in this situation. You are a true inspiration!!

You know, when wirehair first told us about this, he basically asked not to be treated different. Then he picks a freaking turnip for his avatar! I figure, best thing I can do is treat him no different, but at the same time let him know I'm thinking about him. So, if his balls need busting, then bust I will! He's still a guy, a respected member of this forum, and a friend who I'd buy a beer and hang out with, given the chance due to our locations.

I will echo other's sentiments, however: you're a heck of a man to handle this the way you are, and I do admire you for that. I don't know if I could do what you're doing the way you're doing it.

Yep, a lot of you guys are important to me as well. Not you, eclark, but some of you other guys for sure.

eclark, tell Eracer to get his butt back over here.

Pffft, you love me like a son.

I have told him a couple times...he shows up for a week then disappears again. He's been consumed by another hobby me thinks.
