I forgot!
An interesting article. I did not realize how little Nicklaus missed rounds due to injuries. Significant difference. (There's a graph in the link that charts the info in the following "cut & paste".)
My only possible disagreement with the article is that we now live in an age of medical miracles. Eric Compton almost wins the U.S. Open with his third heart. Hundreds of thousands of us are walking around on titanium knees or with prosthetic hips. There's not much that, if you have the dollars to pay the best specialists, you cannot have removed and replaced. Jack didn't need it. Today's athletes... and tomorrow's... will have that advantage.

"With Tiger Woods once again suffering from a back injury, it looks like he will be forced to miss the PGA Championship this week, the final major of the year. If he does, it will increase the number of rounds Tiger has missed (due to injury or missed cut) at the majors to 30 since turning pro. Of those, 28 have come in the last seven years.
At the same age (38), Jack Nicklaus had missed a total of eight rounds in his career at the majors, and none due to injury. In fact, by the time Nicklaus won his 18th major at the age of 46, he only missed 15 rounds at a major with only three of those due to injury. Those came when he was 43 years old and was forced to withdraw from the 1983 Masters before the second round.
Which gets us to why Tiger will never catch Jack: He is just not giving himself enough opportunities. Nicklaus' frequency of wins slowed down in his late 30s and early 40s. But he was out there every time and had more opportunities. Woods is not and there is no indication it will ever get better."

I just see 3 major flaws in Tigers game now.

1. He can't buy a fairway with his driver.
2. He never gets his iron shots close to the pin anymore.
3. He can't putt anymore.

These 3 problems kind of remove any "intimidation factor" he used to have. I'm also going to say that the new PGA tour is much more competitive then in Jack's day. Some might disagree but who did Jack have other then Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. I know there were a couple other greats in there at the start and finish but during his prime those were the guys.

That's what I was saying to my buddy the other day. There are to many guys on tour today that have a good chance of winning. Shoot, look at Rory right now, two wins in three weeks. Every guy on tour is a threat

I believe Tiggy will win again, but relative to who he has been for golf, he is a has been.

I believe a lot of Tiger's wins came through intimidation. Jack intimidated guys from the start of his career to the finish. Tiger no longer has that in his bag.
The only reason he was intimidating was because he was damn good.

A bad golfer can't intimidate a good golfer, at least not on tour.

Watch him come back next year and win the first two. Everyone will jump back on the BeatJack Bandwagon again.

I'm not fully off either , just one leg off

I'm being dragged by the towable off the back, I don't think he can, but something keeps me forced to root for him.

I'm in the dodge charger next to you fools. Laughing my arse off at you all looking like the Beverly Hillbillies.
Tiger is done and dusted. Withdraw coming in round 2, 14th hole, about 12 shots off the pace.

Beats having a shithouse name.

Humans are odd creatures. When Woods was dominating his competition had a resigned to their fate death row mentality. They had very little confidence in beating Tiger. They were resigned to playing off for second place.

Once the trouble hit Tiger, the competition (almost hyena like) came out of the woodwork and their confidence grew. In order for Woods to get the intimidation factor back, he'd need to dominate for a season. He'd need to win Fed Ex Cup, majors, just about everything. Based on what we are seeing at the moment there's no prospect of that happening.

I'm so close to going back and editing my PGA picks to add him.

I just can't close the book on him, if anybody can come back from where he has been is there any doubt it's him?
