Might as well have a COVID-19 thread

Played my first round of golf for the season last weekend. Normally I’d put a post up on social media about it. Decided not to because I didn’t want to deal with the inevitable “why are you out..” comments. Now keep in mind I walked, by myself and the closest I got to another person the entire 3 hours was when I paid. I stood 6 feet away, behind a line, from a table set outside of the clubhouse, read off my CC # to the clerk and off I went.

I’m kinda getting the feeling that people like the one Clark is referring too are people that need to feel validated by judging others decisions against the ones they’d make. Maybe it’s a flaw, I’m hearing a lot of “more people die in car crashes every year”. Idk I’m not a dr I’m a loan guy. When it comes to this, and stuff like it, I’ll listen to the doctors mostly. I’m washing my hands more for sure, working from home but I’m not wearing a mask...yet.

I do get a chuckle from all the armchair doctors and medical types that when the next thing rolls around they’ll be experts on the economy, investing, interest rates, politics you name it.

People need to feel validated and if that means judging and basically acting like idiots, I don’t think they realize how stupid they sound or maybe worse don’t care.

But seriously, golf has to be the safest outdoor activity to do, I mean other than like kayaking an empty lake or something.

that and riding your motorbike - you wearing facial mask, aka helmet, and gloves......what more do you need......only problem is, in SA we are on lockdown - meaning STAY HOME, unless you are in the essential sevice, then you can move around. no golf, no bike riding, no school, no nothing except for your own home/yard.

we are on day 14 today, another 7 to go - unless they extend the lockdown, which i am sure is going to happen...:(

I’ll see your semi-clothed gimp and raise you a Wonder Woman.

I didn't say we should ignore it at all. It is a serious situation and social distancing is a good idea. It's the ridiculousness of some people and how they feel that everyone else needs to be as extreme as they are or how others should live their life exactly as they do. That's what I can't stand.

My biggest beef is being collectivised with the lowest common denominator. I’m big enough and ugly enough to handle myself, avoid other humans and still enjoy the great outdoors. Yet I have my freedom of movement completely curtailed because measures to control people with a 20 IQ are applied across the board.

And don’t get me started about predictive computer modelling being represented as fact.

I went to the grocery store the other day and was not at all surprised to see large families and some people stopping in aisles just to talk (which drives me crazy anyway without the quarantine lol)

One of the local stores is trying out one-way aisles.

Publix has implemented this. People can't do any better in the grocery store than they do on the street. I called at least 5 of them MORONS yesterday for starting down an aisle the correct way, and then turning around and going the wrong way and running into me. I'm going to print out some MORON signs and start handing them out. "Here's your sign!"

Damn I just typed a lot of words, Limp how do you type so much so often? I need to rest!
Rest? You lazy dolt! Understand, Shot Talk is not the only forum where I just might have a reputation for rather wordy posts. One forum has a thread where we all talk in rhyme. Keeps a feeble old mind working. Here is yesterday's post on that thread describing how my day began. You ain't seen but a microscopic example of what I can type... and do most every day. What else does an old retired geezer have to do, anyway???? :>)

Just got back from the grocery store.
Wife thought we needed a few things more.
Senior citizens only between 7 and 8 a.m.
Could not believe the parking lot traffic jam!

The parking lot was full when I got there at six fifty-five.
Didn't know this many seniors still knew how to drive.
The line was long, but I took my place in the que.
Most people in line were spaced apart, except just a few.

One by one we shuffled ahead towards the one entry door.
One by one folks took a cart, wiped it down, and entered the store.
Once inside the store it was mass chaos and like demo derby at the fair.
People were like animals acting like for only themselves they did care.

Some were trying to keep the social distancing recommended by CDC.
Others would butt into the spacing with their carts, really upsetting me.
I always have believed folks could act more polite and at least show they cared.
This morning proved me wrong... The selfishness of people was publicly bared.

I was wearing my N95 mask... and was so glad I had it on!
The idea of distancing and politeness was sure as heck gone!
The disappointing thing was this crowd were senior citizens who better manners should know.
A crisis can bring out the best in some folks. And, in others, the bad side really does show.

I think I'll return tomorrow morning when no senior citizens are given a special shopping hour.
I would like to see if those younger behave better than the seniors that turned me so sour.
Then, next week when the seniors have the floor
I'll be one of the first in line at the door.

My mask will be on my face and I'll be covered from my head to my feet.
I'll grab one of the biggest carts and run into any old geezer I meet.
That old shopping cart will be dented and broken when I leave the store.
Respect and politeness I will display nevermore!

Just try to butt into line because you are in a bigger hurry than I.
Think you can get past me in an aisle... just give it a try!
I'll park and I'll doddle for a long time blocking an entire aisle.
Then I'll zoom and zip on around the store pushing and shoving all the while!

There will be little old ladies left in my path cowering in fright.
Those old geezer men will be knocked out of the way... to the left and to the right.
I'm sure the police will be called to remove me from the store.
But I'll be satisfied thinking that I've evened the score!

Of courses I would never intentionally hurt someone just because they are impolite.
Some of these senior citizens would have heart attacks if I showered them with fright.
It just disappoints me to see so many folks display the side of themselves that is bad.
We are better than that! I know we are and that's what makes me so sad.
