Well the 2006 season is over for most of us if not all of us. I'm playing winter league golf and get to the range on the odd evening. Some of us are waist deep in snow (WBL) with no signs of playing again till spring next year. The Shot talk forums have slown down with not much golf being played just us Ho's keeping things ticking over.

This thread is for us all to think back to the days of the summer sun beating down on our backs the birds singing and all things looking rosey. I want to know what is your best story from the season? Hole in one, winning your 1st comp, turning pro whatever your best tail from the season share it on this thread........

My most memorable from this year was about a month ago. Playing a par 5. Hit my second ball in the cr@p. Dropped two and hit 3 to 150 yards. Put the next one in the hole for a par. The longest shot I had holed with anything more than a PW.

Next would be in the last month. Shot an 82 on my home course. I have shot in the 70's on my old home course 3-4 years ago including a couple 75's, a couple 80-81 on reasonably tough courses, but based on the toughness of this course it is likely the best round I have ever shot.

For me it was a quite season. I didn't win any comps but had quite a few top 10's and a couple of 2nd place finishes. My handicap came down a shot from 9-8 so I consider it a good season, a move in the right direction.

The story I want to tell was of the strangest par I've ever made. Our 1st hole is a short par 4, about 320yrds up hill. I was running a little late for my tee off time so didn't have time to warm up. I got onto the tee and basically had one swing with my new 3 wood and then away I went. I had only got the 3 wood that day and had never hit a ball with it. The fool I am I decided that I would use it on the 1st anyway as that was one of the holes I decided to get a 3 wood for. I was eager to see how my new club would perform and lifted my head before I finished my back swing. I nearly missed the ball and needless to say I topped it straight into the pond just below the tee. I then took the walk of shame back to my bag for another ball, I switched club to my trusted 2 iron. I went 3 off the tee and hit about 220 up the middle. From there I pulled my 52 degree gap wedge. I managed to keep my head down and low and behold I hit a peach, it was all over the stick from the second it left the club face. It landed about 3 foot short and took one hop forward into the cup for a par 4. To cap it off there was a four ball walking behind the green to the 4th tee and they witnessed my ball land and go in and responded with a big cheer. I saw the lads in the club house after the round and they were all congratulating me on what they thought was an eagle 2, I had to tell them I was 3 off the tee and it was only for par. ;)

You would think it would be the first ace I ever got after 40 years (July) but it wasn't. It was the two times I broke 80 (79) and my lowest ever 9 holes of 37. Most of the year I was at my usual mid-40's for nine and 80's-90's for 18 so I felt like I made a HUGE jump in my game and I'm at an age where it probably should be going downhill. I also found a driver that's given me a chance to hit 300 yard drives if I just do my part. This (along with my new putter and hybrid I just got) has all got me really fired up for next summer.

Previous years (have to mention this) I played a scramble tourney with the #2 of our large transmission company (President) and they used my drives (huge for me) on all the long holes. Then I got a "high five" from this guy after I hit a 100 yard wedge shot into the hole for an eagle. (This company likes good golfers and you won't get "downsized" if you can play decent).

Winning my clubs match play championship was easily my highlight. Finally got my name up on the big board at the club. Golf immortality at least in my little neck of the woods.

Shot 77's in back to back rounds, that was part of the highlight. The other part was in the 2nd 77 round I hit a 70yd. cut with my 54* wedge and holed it for my first ever eagle. Man that was awesome.

Mine's easy. Driving a 285 yard par 4. In North Carolina, in humid weather.

I tied my 14 year-old nephew. We both shot 80.

'course, I had him by 3 strokes on the front.... :D

Reached my lifelong golfing goal of becoming a single digit handicap with a swing change and lots of practice. Went from a 13 to a 7.9 currently.

hm... where to start
-i had a hole out from 95 with a sw for eagle
-shot 75, including an even par 36 front nine
-shot under 82 for a 5 round stretch in august
-won the junior invitational with an 80, which included staying even over the last 5, and holing a 6 footer on 18 to win by 1.
- got to single digit (8.9)
not bad for a 14 yr old :) haha.
overall a very productive year.
now... to get sub 5 before my 15th bday .

My 2nd hole in one was a beauty. In a practise round on my home course for a tourney the next day (were not talking about the tourney...) i holed a 124 yards, one hop a foot in front, hopped by and sucked back into the hole. Went on to shoot -1 that day. (then shot 86 in the tourney, but were not talking about that:p).

Getting my hdcp down to a 2 is great, and the 4 straight 2nd place finished to end the season was kool (dissapointing a little though).

Easy. Hitting my second shot to within three feet of the hole on the 18th at St. Andrews (after a decent round), walking up the fairway and getting applause from the few spectators hanging out near the green.

Had my best season ever in 2006. MOI-matched clubs and Hogan's Five Lessons really paid off. A few highlights:

In midseason my handicap had dropped from a 6.4 to a 3.4. My lowest index ever.

I shot a 32, -4 on the back 9 at my club.

I broke 80 every round I played in June (12 rounds). Never done that before in a calendar month.

I took 2nd in my club championship. My previous best finish was 4th.

I took 3rd in a tournament at my home-town course where all day Sunday is match play. Previous best was 4th and out of the money or winning a consolation flight or whatnot. I lost to the guy in the quarterfinals who won the next match (9holes) for the championship. I shot under par on 3 of the 4 9's I played that day, only losing my match on my one "bad" nine. (It's an extremely short, easy 9-hole course)

I just tore up, money-wise, in my men's club. It's $100 to join, plus $10 per event ($20 for 2-day events) and another $5 per event for optional nearies. I'm way, way up for the year.

I had a 3-eagle round. Eagled 2 par 5's the easy way, 1-putting, then holed out a SW on a short par 4. Amazingly I didn't shoot under par for the round.

I had 12 eagles this season.

Eraser

Now THAT is SOMETHING!! Congrats and too bad no one filmed it. :)

Mine's easy too, I started Golf in 2006 (September). :)

Another highlight was I broke 100 (scored a 99) my 6th time on the course.

Plan on playing as much as possible in 2007.

Great thread.

I had a few good rounds, but mostly memorable shots. Jarring out of the sand, putting for eagle on a par 4 (320+), making a par 4 after topping the snot out of a ball for no reason on hole #1 at Dakota Dunes....(that was bogus, feck me).

My biggest highlight, by far, was playing in Texas with DaveE. Drinking Shiner under the warm Texan sun while everyone back home was freezing their a$$es off. That was an extremely memorable experience, something I won't forget anytime soon.

Yep, JohnE was a wonderful host....:D
